A driver who arrives at a broken charger rarely gives the network a second chance. Remote monitoring is how operators find out about problems before drivers do, and often fix them without anyone visiting the site.
What a networked charger reports
- Status: available, charging, faulted or offline.
- Error codes: specific faults in power modules, connectors, payment or communication.
- Session data: start and stop times, energy delivered, and why each session ended.
- Health data: temperatures, cooling performance, and power module condition.
- Connectivity: signal strength and communication drop-outs.
From alert to fix
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Detect | The platform raises an alert on a fault, a failed session pattern or a charger going offline |
| Diagnose | Engineers review error codes and recent sessions remotely |
| Resolve remotely | Many issues clear with a reset, configuration change or software update |
| Dispatch | If a visit is needed, the technician arrives knowing the fault and carrying the right part |
| Learn | Recurring faults across sites are traced to root causes and fixed for good |
Watch failed sessions, not just offline chargers. A charger that looks available but fails to start sessions is worse for drivers than one that is clearly marked out of service.
Predictive maintenance
Trends in the data can show a problem developing: a power module running hotter than its neighbours, a cooling system losing performance, or a connector with rising error rates. Replacing parts on schedule, before they fail, keeps chargers available and reduces emergency call-outs.
Keeping drivers informed
Live status should flow to apps and maps, including roaming partners, so drivers are not sent to chargers that are out of service.
How PxT can help
PxT Energies monitors chargers around the clock, clears many faults remotely, and dispatches technicians with the right parts. We can also bring existing chargers from other installers onto our monitoring. See our guide to planned maintenance for the wider routine.
